Gold Choir participants must demonstrate the following skills and qualities to be accepted:
1. Excellent pitch matching and intonation (singing in tune)
2. Ability to hold one's own part and sing in harmony with others
3. Maturity and focus
4. Ability and desire to respectfully represent the Mission Hill choir program in the community
If you have never been in a choir before, Blue Choir (Beginning) is the place to start. If you have some experience singing and want extra responsibilities and challenges, please practice the audition below. Fill out the form and come to both audition sessions below:
2019 Auditions will be held: Monday, June 3 and Tuesday, June 4
Westlake: First recess (10:10-10:30am)
Bay View: Lunch recess (12:20-12:40)
Matching Pitches: Teacher will play random pitches on the piano and singer matches on the word "la"
Major Scale: Do, Re, Mi, Fa, So, La, Ti, Do (and back down)
Melodic Patterns: (Example) Do re mi, So la ti do, etc. OR random series of notes played on the piano and singer repeats on "la"
My Country ‘tis of Thee: Learn at home (see video below) and sing the 1st verse, a capella (without piano)
Range: Sing scales up to your highest and lowest pitch, teacher will record
RUBRIC:
4 = All pitches and rhythm are performed accurately, clear tone, exhibits basic music skills.
3 = Most pitches and rhythm are performed accurately, mostly clear tone, exhibits most basic music skills.
2 = Some pitches and rhythm are performed accurately, still developing tone, basic music skills may be lacking.
1 = Few pitches and rhythm are performed accurately, weak tone, basic music skills are lacking.
